Feeling insecure as a mom is normal, honestly, it’s more common than it should be (considering how amazing we are). That’s why the first set of journaling prompts for moms that I wanted to share with you would be to help you feel more confident in yourself.
Why Should Moms Journal?
Journaling has been proven to have amazing benefits for your mentality and mental health. It’s one of the ways you can deal with overwhelming emotions and find a healthy way to express yourself. Journaling helps you:
- Manage anxiety
- Prioritize and identify problems & fears
- Reduce stress
- Tracking your moods each day
- Cope with depression
- Encourage positive self-talk
- Identify negative thoughts & behaviors
Being a mom doesn’t exempt us from having feelings, big emotions, or dealing with personal issues. In fact, we tend to bottle it all up to try and better help our family – or feel that it’s necessary to give our kids the attention they need and deserve.

How Do I Integrate Journaling Into My Routine?
Journaling is one of those hobbies that allows you to be lenient in your writing. You can choose to journal in the mornings, at night, during lunch, etc. Ideally, you want to pick a timeframe when you can focus solely on writing in your journal – and not on household tasks or heading out to work.
Many moms like to integrate journaling into their morning routine to help set their intentions for the day as well as cope with the day you had before. Other moms find that journaling before bed helps take away some of the stress and allows them to relax, and fall asleep better. Even so, other moms do both and integrate journaling into their morning and night routines.
Before getting anxious about the amount of time journaling takes, remember that journaling does not need to be a lengthy process – your journal entry can simply be the answer to a question rather than a full page of your feelings.
What Type of Journal is Best for Moms?
Journals are journals whether they’re composition notebooks from Walmart or specialty designs from Etsy. The best type of journal for moms is one that fits your needs. If you find yourself having time to journal while you’re in the pick-up line at school, find a smaller journal that can fit in your purse or you can keep in your car. If you’re able to journal at home, you can find journals that fit your aesthetic.
More than the actual journal, I suggest finding pens or pencils that you enjoy writing with. Personally, I enjoy the colors of gel pens. Not only do they make my journal colorful, but they also encourage me to use them thanks to liking how they look and how they write.
Is Journaling the Right Hobby for Me?
Don’t be upset or disappointed if nothing sparks when you read through journal prompts all day – not all hobbies are for everyone. Journaling may be a fun and easy hobby which makes it a good one for busy moms, but it’s not the only hobby that exists. Journaling may not be the one for you and that’s okay.
If you still want to journal, push through the beginning if you’re not feeling the process. Once you create a habit of journaling, you’ll be able to take joy in the peace that your hobby brings.
