If you’re a beginner crocheter or you’re looking for an easy (and cute) amigurumi frog then you’re in the right place! This easy amigurumi frog free pattern is a simple and small crochet project that you can make in 30 minutes to an hour – but, if this is one of your first amigurumi or crochet projects, give yourself two hours just and a bit of leniency.
Little amigurumi animals are some of my favorites to make because their cute, meaning my toddlers love them, and they’re easy – meaning I get the satisfaction of creating something within a short time frame.
This specific pattern consists primarily of single crochets and six bobble stitches, excluding increases and decreases (don’t be scared off by these terms – you’ll get the hang of it).
How to Crochet Your Amigurumi Frog
For this pattern, you’ll need to know how to create a chain, single crochet, increase, decrease, and bobble stitch. This will not even come close to a full skein of yarn either, but you will need three different colors of yarn. You’ll need a green for the body, pink for the blush, and black for the mouth (the eyes are safety eyes).
Don’t be super rigid about what you’re using either, my frog’s body was made of plush yarn but the blush and mouth were made of velvet yarn and I still think she looks adorable.
What You’ll Need:
For your yarn, you’ll need to get plush/blanket yarn. The yarn I used was from Joann’s Big Twist and is 10.5oz Super Bulky Polyester in Sage. You’ll need:
- Green yarn for the body
- Pink yarn for blush
- Black yarn for the mouth
I recommend using a 6.0mm hook, a 5.0mm works just as well and creates a bit tighter stitches but it’s a personal preference.
Other things you’ll need include:
- Fiberfill/Stuffing
- 9mm safety eyes
- Stitch marker
- Darning needle
- Scissors/Clippers
Abbreviations:
These are the abbreviations for the stitches used in this easy amigurumi frog free pattern, I’ll try and keep it as simple as possible.
R: Row/Round
MR: Magic Ring
SC: Single Crochet
DC: Decrease
INC: Increase
BO: Bobble Stitch
[…]: Row Stitch Count
Notes to Remember:
For this pattern, you crochet in rounds and will slip stitch into the first stitch to end off the round, but you will not chain one. You will instead go straight into the first single crochet of the round.
Please count your stitches and use your stitch marker. Because the feet/eyes are bobble stitches and not attached separately like larger amigurumi, a miscount or lack of counting can lead to some very unique limb positions.
