5 Quick Crochet Gifts You Can Make Today

One of my new favorite hobbies as a mom is crochet – I get to get crafty without the needles (instead you use hooks) and I can use fluffy yarn (velvet is my favorite so far). But, one of the best things about crochet is that now I can DIY everyone’s gifts for birthdays, Christmas, Easter, you name it! The only downside? I’m a last minute planner, which is why these quick crochet gifts are exactly what I needed.

Now most of these are truly QUICK. I’ve been crocheting for a little over four months now and tackled most of these projects in my first two months, and although I took longer than their estimated time, they still only took a few hours (think 3) max. And, once you make it the first time, it’s easier the next time because you’re more familiar with the pattern, stitch, yarn, and hook size.

Anyways, since you’re here, you need some simple cochet gift ideas you can put together pretty quickly so let’s get straight into it:

The Easiest Quick Crochet Gifts You Can Make in a Pinch

I didn’t want to put too many patterns on here and overwhelm you, but I did grab a wide variety. If you’re planning on making something last minute, it’s likely that you don’t have time (or would prefer not) to head out to buy more yarn. While you can always swap the yarn and hook size of the pattern, that also requires more brain work – so these patterns have a mix of sizes to work with!

I would also like to note that a few of these patterns are free, but some are paid. Most crochet patterns range from $1-$5 which I think is a fair price to pay for their creativity and time (pattern making is a skill for sure). And if you’re looking for some more fun crochet patterns to try, check out these Dinosaur Crochet patterns or these easy Duck Patterns for Beginners.

Here are the quick crochet gifts I promised:

#1. Hanging Plant Two-in-One Crochet Pattern by Purely Works

Hanging Plant Pattern Quick Crochet Gifts by Purely Works | The Hobby Mom

This one might not be for you if you’re a TRUE crochet beginner. To tackle this Hanging Plant Two-Pack of Crochet Patterns by Purely Work, you’ll need to know quite a few different stitches – even if it’s considered a quick crochet project. But, the payoff is high as you’ll be able to gift a super-cute hanging plant for their car!

You’ll need a softer, category 4 yarn for this one – but, swapping the hook size and yarn size is simple. As long as you go smaller (not larger), you’ll get a similar look without losing it’s functionality.

#2. Free Twist Headband Crochet Pattern by Daisy Farm Crafts

Free Twist Headband Crochet Pattern by Daisy Farm Crafts | The Hobby Mom

I personally love this Headband Pattern by Daisy Farm Crafts because it’s simple and diverse. She actually has two versions on her website, one for a double wrap (great to use as an ear warmer) and one for a single, which serves perfectly as a regular headband. She also tells you how to make it for both adults and babies!

The beauty of this pattern is that it’s pretty much just double crochets! You’ll need Bernat Baby Velvet Yarn (or velvet yarn of the same size for the stretch) and a 5mm/Size H crochet hook. Psssst… you can find more of our favorite baby crochet headbands here.

#3. Chapstick Cozy Crochet Pattern by ButFirstCrochet

Another one that might take a minute to work out if you’re a beginner, but is still a pretty quick gift idea is this Chapstick Cozy Crochet Pattern by ButFirstCrochet. Again, I love this pattern and added it to the list because it’s something the reciever can actually use and appreciate on a daily basis!

For this pattern, you’ll need to be familiar with (or willing to learn) quite a few stitches and be comfortable starting from a Magic circlet/magic ring. You’ll need to work with worsted weight cotton yarn and 2.75mm crochet hook. You’ll also need to have a lobster claw (the little metal clip) on hand – but a keychain ring will do in a pinch!

#4. Mabel Chicken by Oak and Marlow

I think this chicken crochet pattern by Oak and Marlow is a must-have (and almost a classic at this point). It works with nearly any yarn color or pattern, making it the perfect quick crochet gift you can make with scraps! Plus, you end up with a super cute and fluffy chicken that’s about 5″ tall.

If you’re looking to do the EXACT pattern and not just work with what you have, you’ll need an 8mm crochet hook and some super bulky weight/category 6 yarn. And don’t worry, this pattern mostly consists of single crochets, so you’re safe when it comes to difficulty.

#5. Farmhouse Mug Cozy Crochet Pattern by CedarRowPatterns

Farmhouse Mug Cozy Crochet Pattern by CedarRowPatterns | The Hobby Mom

I am a coffee lover and full enthusiast so it shouldn’t be unusual to see this Farmhouse Mug Cozy Crochet Pattern by CedarRowPatterns on the list of quick crochet gifts! This is another functional and gorgeous gift to give during all seasons – but you may find its more appreciated during the cooler months.

You’ll need cotton size 4 yarn and a 5mm hook, along with a large/oversized button. But, if you don’t have the right yarn/hook, the creator includes instructions on how to easily adjust to what you DO have.

That’s all for today! Which pattern is your favorite? Will you be making any for your last minute crochet gifts? Let me know in the comments down below!
